The Lurgakkitawan of Petey Bog

"Big fog, bright fog, doom of yore.

Blue fog, Cold fog, come no more."

(Fogpoint Children's Rhyme)

"In the bog, she spies it: that great, shambling thing. It sets her spine ashiver, her hands a-tingling.

'Come deeper' it beckons, its voice cutting deep. 'Follow, and find, whatever ye'd seek...'

And lo did they go, away into night, two shades cast in viridian light."

(Strange Tales Vol. XII)

The Lurgakkitawan is a figure of old orcish myth, a creature of The Deeper Realm first mentioned in Ghyserian records dated in the later stages of the Founding Era. It's believed to be at least two storeys tall, yet despite its size, it moves nearly silently. Travellers are warned to watch for a solid wall of bluish fog, which conceals most of its body, and a pair of glowing viridian eyes that behave like fog lights.

According to legend, if you find yourself caught in the midst of its protective miasma, you'll experience potent sensory hallucinations. The spectres of deceased loved ones, the whispers of long-lost lovers, half-remembered melodies from childhood... the beckons used to entice those caught in its wake are rooted in memory, and lure victims to follow the Lurgakkitawan deeper into the wilds. Those who succumb to its effects become ensorcelled husks of their former selves, their essence draining away over centuries as they helplessly lumber after the ghosts of their past. Their eyes take on a bright, glowing, viridian hue while their bodies deteriorate into cold, glowing motes of fog.

Mossy Creeper

"If gnarled roots shift unpleasant, watch thy step, O careless peasant.

If moss and bark show ghoulish flesh, turn and run... or join the rest."
